King Kong is coming home

This summer, Cordia Blackswan is bringing Birmingham’s infamous King Kong home in a celebration of the city being the host of this years Commonwealth Games.

50 years after Kong’s first visit to the city, Nicholas Monro’s sculpture will return to Birmingham in his very own pop-up park: King Kong Park at Great Hampton Row, Birmingham, B19 3JP.

King Kong Park

King Kong Park will bring together the local community, visitors, athletes, and tourists in a festival-style celebration of the city.

Working together with local artists, one of Birmingham’s biggest independent food operators and event organisers, the park will host live music, sport events and street food and drink suppliers between 22nd July and 8th August. Many of the Commonwealth Games matches and fixtures will be livestreamed on a big screen, and the park will also have a running track for visitors to use.

The Park will be open from Friday 22nd July until Monday 8th August 2022 from 10am-11pm each day and entry is free of charge.

Interested in Purchasing a King Kong Poster?

It goes without saying that King Kong is a local legend in Birmingham, and as a result, we’ve had a lot of requests to purchase his ‘Lost Years’ posters.

All of the King Kong Lost Years posters are available to buy for £15 from the Monro Art Exhibition, which is open from Thursday – Saturday every week, 11am – 4pm.

Returning a key piece of Birmingham’s history

A 7m tall sculpture of King Kong, created by RoboCarv will form the centrepiece of the park. Identical to the original sculpture by Nicholas Monro and with the family’s blessings, we have worked hard to return King Kong to his original state and to bring him back to his rightful home here in Birmingham.

It’s time to go ape and get ready for an awesome summer in Brum. Join us from 22nd July for live Games, music, street food, King Kong, and more monkey business.

Find King Kong Park
Located on Great Hampton Row in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, King Kong Park will be right at the heart of Cordia Blackswan’s residential and commercial development hub along Great Hampton Street. The park is a 7-minute walk from Snow Hill Station, a 15-minute walk from New Street Station and a 2-minute walk from St. Paul’s Tram Station.
